The tigers are here!

Tiger Barbs

Tiger Barbs are among the common species that can easily be found on most aquarium stores, the price can range from 50 sens to around or more than a ringgit depends on who you are dealing with, either a store or directly from a breeder.

Tiger barbs are famous and named after their body colours which looks exactly like a tiger's, they are also very active and will make your tank more lively! They are a nice addition to a community tank of their family or with any other semi-aggressive fish, it will not be wise to put them together with fishes such as swordtail or guppies since the tigers will nip their fins. Tiger Barbs are also a good beginner fish, not only colourful and lively, it is tolerable fish which are quit hardy.

Recently, we have manage to contact a tiger barb breeder and successfully make a deal with the breeder. In this deal, we manage to lay our hands on some cheap stock! Check our "our product" tab for more information on buying this lively fish

Information Technology in the Aquarist World

As shown from the video, sometimes IT can make a huge different in the way we communicate and deal in the Aquarist World.
Our web store is one of the many example, we get our stock from the breeder only when there are orders from the client, this make our selling price lower since we do not bear the liability of losing the stocks.

Freshwater Algae! The "Green" Problem!

Algae bloom is one of the common problem faced by many aquarist, especially those who have outdoor tanks. Patches of hairy algae in the fish tanks will harm the tank's biodiversity and will destroy the tank's beauty, it is a headache for aquarists who faced this problem.

Basic Prevention of Algae Bloom

Do not give over lighting to a tank as this accelerate the growth of algae, controlling the time of lighting in a tank is vital in preventing algae bloom. If you are having an outdoor tank, try to prevent it from been shine by the sun all day through any possible and suitable method!

Furthermore, too much nutrient in a tank also causes algae bloom. If the plants in your tank cannot use the nutrients efficiently, the excess nutrients will be use by the algae for their growth.

Countering Algae, The Biological Ways!

There are many kinds of chemicals and medicine in the market that can remove algae in a tank, but I prefer using the biological ways.
There are indeed a few aquatic animals that are good in removing the algae from tanks. this includes all sorts of plecos and sucker-mouth fish. There are also the cute siamese algae eater available in the market as an replacement to those big plecos. For planted tanks, cherry shrimps, amano shrimps, yamato shrimps and red ramshorns snails are the best as they have smaller sizes and suit better with the planted tanks.

Conclusion:

It is best to prevent algae bloom then countering it, but if the algae bloom do happen, it will be better to use the biological ways then chemicals ways since you won't sure what secondary effect will the chemicals have, it can be destructive to your tanks in different ways!

Sulawesi Orange Snails
Sulawesi Orange Snails

Some snail species, for example, the ramshorn, trumpet, trapdoor and sulawesi snails are beneficial to aquarium ecosystem as they help to remove unwanted organic matters such as algae, leftover fish foods, carcasses, and rotten plants in tank without disturbing live fishes and plants. Furthermore, they would not need to be fed and are not parasite-carriers due to their species and home-bred origin.

Distinctions between species:
Red ramshorn snail  – specializes in removing algae and has vivid red colour;
Thorn trumpet snail  – cleans up other organic matters, even those inside the gravel or sand, as it likes to burrow.
Trapdoor snail- act as an early alert system to the aquarist, it will hibernate once there is some problem with the water so the owner can take notice of their aquarium bad condition.
Sulawesi orange snail- not much benefit compare to the others but it sure is cute!
